2011 AGM – BRIEF REPORT
The 2011 AGM took place on a sunny 16 April at Crockenhill village hall,
near Swanley, Kent. It was attended by some 100 members and friends. The
major issue of the day, whether to incorporate the club as a limited
company, was carried by a substantial majority following a postal ballot of
members and a short debate and voting at the meeting.
The meeting was marked by the election of Richard Playdon as Treasurer.
This ended an unparalleled 43 years in office for Richard Jackson.
Following many tributes Richard received a standing ovation. He remains on
the committee.
Roger Hales stood down as chairman to be succeeded by Simon Fisher. Roger
also relinquished the role of membership secretary and this role was taken
by James Hodgson. Roger received the Steam Plough Cup from president
Jonathan Garman. Mark Rigg after 11 years relinquished the position of
records officer. It was left to the new committee to fill this position.
Also standing down from the committee was ex-president Charles Roads. Guy
Debes was elected to the committee.
John Billard was elected a vice president and made an honorary life member.
After the meeting was over we were treated to another of Sandra’s wonderful
teas ably assisted by Helen Oliver. Trevor Spooner then presented some
short films on steam ploughing in Kent (1979) and promotional films by James
Lowther on the subject of dredging ornamental lakes by steam.
Prior to the meeting members were made welcome at the premises of Thomas
Wood at Crockenhill. The club is grateful to Eddie Wood for making this
possible and for giving members such a good welcome at this unique workshop.
